Dr Gurnell is
Clinical Sub Dean at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine & Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist at the Wellcome Trust-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge & Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK.
Dr Gurnell chairs the East of England Strategic Clinical Network’s pituitary multidisciplinary team, and he has led the introduction of a specialised functional pituitary imaging service (using 11C-methionine PET-CT-MRI) in Cambridge, which attracts referrals from throughout the UK and overseas. His clinical interests are in pituitary, adrenal and thyroid disorders.
His research interests include:
- functional imaging in pituitary and adrenal disorder
- genetic and acquired disorders of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis, including thyrotropinomas (TSHomas)
- acromegaly &
- the endocrine & neural basis of financial decision-making.
